PARTICIPATE! HELP DESIGN AN OPEN INNOVATION CHALLENGE FOR FAB LABS
Description
How do we move from idea to action on Sustainable Development Goals? How can we challenge the education communities that surround Fab Labs towards participating and embracing global initiatives and open innovation?
COVID 19 showed us the potential of mobilizing us around a common cause. Yet, in schools and in certain communities, the collaborative and innovative potential of the Fab Lab Network may still seem abstract. Robotics competitions help form communities around STEM subjects and excite students, professors, teachers, and mentors to work hard and get involved. How might we mobilize and challenge the Fab Lab Network in a similar way while remaining uniquely tied to the diverse output, interests, and talents that make-up a “how to make almost anything” community?
Lets gather for a round-table discussion, brainstorming session, and participate in a micro-challenge designed to bring out the best ideas on what Fab Labs are capable of when they are working together towards a common cause. Together we will evaluate what interest there is in this idea and use Fab16 to prepare a formal proposal for future events.
To help spurr relevant discussion and to establish the potential scope of such an initiative, we will be inviting special guests with experience in this area and valuable causes worth challenging. Still to be confirmed, this includes members from the XPRIZE, the UN, and the Fab Foundation. They will provide us with themes and constraints worth testing while offering us an opportunity to demonstrate the innovative capacity of the Fab Lab Network.
It is proposed that this working group meets over three sessions: 1) round table discussion / micro challenge announcement 2) brainstorming activities 3) present and share outcomes of working group
