|A la description de la contribution=In collaboration with SCOPES-DF (TBD), this is a proposal to create a working group during Fab16 to establish what a possible yearly competition for youth in Fab Labs could look like. Similar to how Robotics competitions engage youth in STEM, this is to encourage a community of learning through the Fab Lab network by engaging in a globally distributed challenge relating to design, sustainable initiatives (SDG's), and global action.
|A la description de la contribution=COVID 19 showed us the potential of mobilizing us around a common cause. Yet, in schools, and in certain communities, the collaborative power of the Fab Lab Network may seem a bit nebulous. Especially, when compared to robotics and STEM education where competitions are used to energize and excite students, professors, teachers, and mentors to work hard and get involved in science and technology. How might we mobilize the Fab Lab Network through an open innovation challenge in a similar way while remaining uniquely tied to the diverse output, interests, and talents that make-up a “how to make almost anything” community?

Join us for a round-table discussion, brainstorming session, and participate in a micro-challenge designed to bring out the best ideas on what a Fab Lab is capable of. Together we can speculate and conceive of a potential challenge that brings together our Fab Labs around the commons and sustainable action. Help decide who this challenge should be for, where, when, and how it might operate. Let’s work together to evaluate if there is interest in this idea and use Fab16 to prepare the workings of a formal proposal for future Fab events.

Description

COVID 19 showed us the potential of mobilizing us around a common cause.
